These terms ("Terms") govern your use of reelgorithm's ("we", "us", "our") website (reelgorithm.net), our email newsletter, our free data kits, our Instagram automation, and our paid digital product (together, the "Services"). By using any of the Services you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.
reelgorithm is an independent media project that publishes short data stories about finance, sport, and the real world. The Services include a website, a weekly email newsletter, free downloadable data kits, and an Instagram account that may send you a one-time reply with a resource link when you comment a keyword on one of our posts.
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Services. By using them you represent that you meet this requirement and that any information you provide is accurate.
This section applies only if you buy our paid digital product, Anatomy of a Data Reel (the "Book"). Where it conflicts with anything else in these Terms, this section wins.
Seller: Lemon Squeezy, acting as merchant of record. You buy the Book from Lemon Squeezy, which is an authorised reseller for us: it takes the payment, it is the name on your card statement and receipt, and it registers and remits any VAT, GST or sales tax itself. Its identity, address and buyer terms are published at lemonsqueezy.com/buyer-terms.

The Book has two parts, and both are delivered together.
The written work: twelve chapters, seven format specifications and ten fill-in worksheets, delivered as a single web page you open in a browser.
The software: reel-starter, a source-code project delivered as a ZIP archive, containing a video-rendering project, a chart library and one complete worked example with its dataset.
What it does not include: our API keys, credentials or accounts; our analytics, publishing or scheduling automation; any audio, voice model, photograph, logo or other third-party licensed asset; and our own channel data. Those are either credentials or other people’s licences, and they are not ours to pass on.
The software depends on third-party components with their own licence terms, and those bind you directly. In particular, Remotion — the renderer the project is built on — is not released under a standard permissive open-source licence and requires a paid company licence above a size threshold set by its publisher. Its terms are at remotion.dev/license. Determining whether your organisation needs that licence, and obtaining it, is your responsibility. Nothing you pay us covers it, and we do not grant, resell or sublicense it. The project’s other dependencies are under permissive licences (MIT, ISC, BSD and the SIL Open Font Licence) and the full list ships with the archive.
The price you see is the price you pay. Because Lemon Squeezy is the merchant of record, any VAT, GST or sales tax due in your country is included in the price displayed to you and is registered and remitted by Lemon Squeezy. Nothing is added on top at the final step. Payment is processed by Lemon Squeezy; we never receive or store your card details.
Access is immediate. On payment you are shown two personal links — one for the written work and one for the software archive — and the same links are emailed to you. Neither link expires. If you lose them, email us and we will send them again.
You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, perpetual licence to read and use the Book, including using its worksheets and methods in your own commercial work. You keep everything you make with it.
The same licence covers the software. You may use, modify and build on reel-starter without restriction on the output, for personal, commercial and client work, on as many of your own projects as you like, with no attribution required and nothing that expires. Videos you produce with it are entirely yours and we claim no interest in them. One working team may share one copy; an organisation putting it on many developers’ machines should buy accordingly.
You may not resell, republish, share your access links publicly, or redistribute the Book or the software in whole or in substantial part — including as a template, a course, a repository, or as training data for a model intended to reproduce it. You may not hand the project to a client as a reusable asset; building a client’s video with it is exactly what it is for. Quoting a short passage with attribution is fine. The full software licence ships inside the archive as LICENCE.md and governs the software in the event of any conflict with this section.
The software is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability in connection with it is limited to the amount you paid.
If you are a consumer in the UK or EU you normally have 14 days to cancel a distance purchase. Because the Book is digital content supplied immediately, you are asked at checkout to consent to immediate access and to acknowledge that doing so ends that statutory cancellation right. That checkbox is not pre-ticked and the sale cannot proceed without it.
Our own refund policy is more generous than the right being waived. See 4.7.
Email hello@reelgorithm.net within 30 days of purchase and we will refund you in full. You do not have to give a reason, you will not be asked for one, and you do not have to return or delete anything. Refunds are issued through Lemon Squeezy and go back to the original payment method, normally within five business days.
This applies whatever the reason — including “it does not run on my machine”, “it is longer than I expected”, or no reason at all.
Updates to the Book — to the written work and to the software — are included at no further cost and arrive at the same links. We may revise, expand or restructure the Book. We are not obliged to keep any particular section unchanged, and we may stop publishing updates at any time — your access to what you bought is not affected.
The Book teaches a process. It guarantees no outcome. Every performance figure in it comes from one channel, one audience and a corpus in the dozens rather than the thousands. Several findings are explicitly labelled as association rather than causation.
Nothing in the Book or on our site promises views, followers, subscribers, revenue, or a working business. Any figures we publish describe work already done; they are not a result you are being promised, and they are not a forecast of what you will achieve.
We aim to keep your access link working indefinitely, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of any website. Download a copy for your own records — the product page and the delivery email both explain how.
If you comment a keyword on one of our Instagram posts, we may send you a one-time private reply (direct message) containing a link to a free resource. This is an optional, opt-in interaction that you initiate by commenting. We do not send unsolicited messages. Your use of Instagram is also governed by Instagram's own Terms of Use.
When using the Services, you agree not to:
The content we create — articles, videos, graphics, code, and the reelgorithm name and marks — belongs to us and is protected by applicable law. You may share and reference our content with attribution, but you may not resell it or present it as your own. Third-party data referenced in our content belongs to its respective owners.
Our kits, datasets, and tools are offered free of charge and provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, reelgorithm and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any decisions you make based on our content. Nothing you read here is financial or investment advice.
The Services rely on third parties including Meta Platforms (Instagram), our email platform, and our hosting/analytics provider. Your use of those platforms is governed by their own terms and policies. How we handle your data is described in our Privacy Policy.
We may suspend or discontinue any part of the Services, or restrict your access, at any time and for any reason. You may stop using the Services at any time and unsubscribe from emails.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland, United States, and the courts of the State of Maryland, United States have non-exclusive jurisdiction.
If you are a consumer, nothing here removes rights you have under the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in, and you may bring proceedings in your own local courts. Consumers in the EU may also use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform.

We may update these Terms; the "last updated" date above will change. Continued use of the Services after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
